As stated previously - I'm 51, a husband, father, Quality Professional, musician and personal fitness trainer.  This is my story.....

My father used to say that life is about balancing the 4 YOU's:
1) You, and your individual goals & dreams
2) You and your significant others (wife / husband, family, friends)
3) You and your job (profession / work)
4) You and your spirituality (faith, beliefs, community involvement)  

About 10 years ago - at the age of 42 - I was consumed with work and lost my balance. I just never had enough TIME for it all. I may have been the Director or Quality for my Company - but my  Quality of Life was non-existant. I was in the worst shape of my life: 
Weight =195 lbs / Waist = 36" / Bodyfat = 36% / Blood Pressure =160/125.  

My metabolism was at an all time low and I simply felt tired and un-healthy with no zest for life. Getting out of bed and thru the day was hard enough.

The extra weight was taking it's tole - and eventually led me to the Emegency Room with chest pains. During the EKG I was asked for my families health history. 

It wasn't until the words came out of my mouth that I realized how serious the problem could be - both my mother & father died before the age of 70 due to heart related problems.

The test results were in and my Doctor gave me the following options:
1)  Get in the best shape of my life - exercise and healthy nutrition     or
2)  Take medication to control high blood pressurem cholesterol      or
3)  Plan on major heart attack or stroke before I turn 45
I chose option #1. The problem was how to get started and stay motivated.

I had my share of false starts and disappoitments with Health Clubs in the past - the expensive dues, the driving back & forth, unable to get on the machines because they were all taken, the sweat on the machines from inconsiderate people, the elbow and tendon injuries due to free weights and finally the clubs closing down overnight and me out hundreds of $$$.
 
While on vacation I met an individual was amazing physical shape: lean, defined, toned.  When I asked him his secret-  he answered BOWFLEX. What was so amazing was his his age - he was 62.

He then asked if I had ever worked out on a BOWFLEX home gym (I hadn't) so - he invited to try out his BOWFLEX Power-Pro. I was impressed at the high quality of this home gym, the variety of exercises, the fact that it was a HOME GYM and could be used at any time and espcailly the concept of progressive resistance. 

 I purchased one that day and eight weeks later, after following the BOWFLEX Body Plan  Strength Training Work-Out  - I was in the best shape of my life: Weight = 160 / Waist = 30" / Bodyfat = 12% / Blood Pressure 118 / 78 / Resting heart rate = 55 bpm.

More importantly, I felt better than I ever had. My energy level increased as did my metabolism.  My musle-tone was better than it had ever been - with no injuries due to the progressive resistance (ALL GAIN - NO PAIN !)

I started living life.....mountain climbing, sky-diving, playing bass again (for the rock band SP511).  There was a open casting call from Nautilus for "Real People" to tell their stories....and I was picked. This lead to the "Real People" BOWFLEX commercial and the 2nd one as well - "Live the DREAM".

My friends, family and co-workers saw the changes - and asked me for guidance. I knew I could really make a positive difference in people's lives, so I decided to go back to school and obtain my Personal Training Certifcation in order to assist others in their pursuit of total fitness. Age IS just a number. What really matters is your health. Without good health -what use is the 401k, house, car and stuff!!!
 
For nine years now I have worked with others in developing realistic fitness goals. The client is responsible for achieving the results, and that it takes an enormous about of discipline and determination. But my techniques soften the blow by making workouts fun, informative, challenging, and a bit different each time.

I hold a Bachelor's of Science Degree (Tri-Major in Chemistry / Biology / Physics) from Youngstown State University, Ohio. I am also a AFTA Certified Personal Trainer with my specialty in progressive resistance trainig using resistance bands and BOWFLEX Home Gym Systems.  I know what works - but more importantly what doesn't.
